Nova Vita Mad Russian
Chardonnay 2008
Nova Vita translates to "new life", which sums up Mark and Joanne
Kozned’s life. This couple have turned their back on corporate life and
are now growing top quality wines on their small Adelaide Hills vineyard.
This Chardonnay has a fresh, yet complex nose, offering white peach,
citrus fruit and melon aromas. Its palate is fresh and tight, with stone fruits,
melon and citrus fruit flavours balanced by fine acidity and enhanced by
nutty oak characters.
Normally with cheddar I’d be reaching for a Cabernet Sauvignon, or a
glass of Tawny, but as it’s summer I thought a white might be a good
option on a warm day. It’s best to go for one that’s full and rich like
Viognier or Chardonnay, with the complexity of the latter a better option.
This one has fine acidity, which draws out the fruit flavours in the
cheddar. This match of wine and cheese seems to accentuate the nutty
characters in both and the stone fruit flavours of the Chardonnay.
